The Feminine Mystique Art Gallery represents over 80 women artists. The owner, Pat Aguilar, has been a potter for over 25 years. Female artists, as well as most working women were not respected in their fields. When Pat sent a portfolio to an art show, she got in with a letter saying, “Dear Mr. Aguilar.” Once at the show, she was never placed in a promising location.
The gallery name came from a book by Betty Friedan. Betty made a big difference in Pat’s life. She knew by reading “The Feminine Mystique,” that she could do anything she wanted to do, career-wise, family, etc. Ms. Friedan had a gentle and educative touch, a more sensible approach at being all as a woman.
The Feminine Mystique Art Gallery opened in 1998 with five women artists. Over the years, we have collected women of many talents. I believe you will find about every medium used. The gallery has paintings (oil, acrylic, watercolor, and mixed media), fused glass art, stain glass, pottery, photography, jewelry, furniture, clothing, gourd art, cloth sculpted figures, and more. During season, we are open 7 days a week from 10 am to 5 pm.
The owner has shown work by artists beginning their art career to women well seasoned. We have some of the best contemporary and original art around.
You will always be greeted with a smile and pleasant conversation. Often the gallery will have visiting artists displaying their talents and even demonstrating. In January, we have art classes on the patio. You may learn beading on clay, doll making, gourd art, or painting. Come visit soon! You will be uplifted by the beauty of it all!
