Tumacácori Under the Full Moon

The year is 1691, and as evening falls in the desert of New Spain, a priest on horseback named Eusebio Francisco Kino looks up at the night sky.  What does he see?

Tumacácori National Historical Park will offer a special guided tour of the mission grounds during the full moon evening of Friday, October 18, 2013.  “The Desert Skies of Father Kino” will explore the relationship between Tumacácori’s most famous astronomer and the night sky we share today.  Historic lanterns will light the way and the church’s interior will be illuminated by candlelight.  Participants will journey through time, from Father Kino’s special astrolabe to modern night sky conservation.

The park will be open from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The guided tour will begin at 7:00 p.m. and conclude by 8:00 p.m. Admission to the park is $3.00 per adult, free for federal pass holders and children under age 16.  For more information, call 520-398-2341, extension
