“Reporting on the Border: What It Is Like.”

Nancy Montoya, winner of the Pulitzer Prize in broadcast journalism, will speak at a breakfast gathering in Green Valley on Thursday, October 13. Her topic is “Reporting on the Border: What It Is Like.” The public is invited. The event will be at Grill on the Green at Canoa Ranch starting at 8:30; for ticket information, see below.

Nancy Montoya has more than 35 years of experience in major markets and network newsrooms. Besides the Pulitzer Prize, she is also the recipient of six Emmy awards and the Alfred I DuPont-Columbia University Silver Baton, which she received for her reporting on the “Death Squads” of El Salvador and Nicaragua. Nancy pioneered a Latin America News Bureau that included fifteen other TV newsrooms from around the country.

Now a part of the Arizona Public Media news team (KUAT Channel 6), Ms. Montoya’s area of expertise is Immigration and US/Mexico Border Issues. Besides her work, she also volunteers with students on the Tohono O’odham Reservation as part of the PBS Newshour Student Report Lab.
A native of Arizona, Nancy’s family owns the oldest working ranch in Arizona, pre-dating the Gadsden Purchase of 1854. Her husband Kirt Ijams is also a producer. Together they have two sons and own Media Source America which produces independent documentary projects.
