Photographic exhibition “Walking to Magdalena: an O’odham Pilgrimage” by Maeve Hickey
March 1 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pmFree
The Consulate General of Mexico and the Cultural Arts Committee of Nogales, Arizona are delighted to present the photographic exhibition “Walking to Magdalena: an O’odham Pilgrimage” by Maeve Hickey, as part of the celebration of the “2nd Women’s Week”.
Hickey’s illustrations embrace the pilgrimage made by members of the Tohono O’odham community. This pilgrimage, which was led by tribal elder Felix Anton, began on the U.S. side of the border at the San Miguel crossing on the Tohono reservation. Comprising just over 100 people, the group arrived in Tubutama, Sonora spending the night camped in the plaza. The arduous walk along the road took 5 days, a journey of reflection, revival of tradition, memory and healing. The pilgrimage finished with the arrival of the pilgrims in Magdalena, Sonora at the chapel of San Francisco.
Come and join us on Thursday, March 1st, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. for the ribbon cutting ceremony at the Consulate’s facilities, and admire the artist’s artwork. Free admission.
“Walking to Magdalena: an O’odham Pilgrimage” will be displayed from March 1st to 8th, 2018.
