The Arizona-Sonora Desert is the home of countless varieties of trees, cacti and plants that have been used by indigenous communities for food, medicine, dyes, tools, toys, baskets, furniture and more for many centuries. Take a hands-on journey with Laurie Melrood of the Tucson Herbalist Collective to learn about rope-making from agave fiber, chiltepin powder for cold remedy, mesquite pitch paint as a body decoration that also darkens your hair (temporarily), and much more. This workshop will engage your senses and send you home with new insights and appreciation of the valuable resources inherent in our desert surroundings. Workshop fee is $17.50 and includes park admission. Reservations are recommended.
