Cinema Under The Stars Presents Clandestine Childhood

Saturday, August 31, Global Change Multi-Media’s Cinema Under The Stars summer series presents the 2011 drama, Clandestine Childhood. Set in the sociopolitical context of 1979 Argentina, Clandestine Childhood narrates the story of a young adolescent boy, Juan, and his life as the son of two Montonero revolutionaries.

This exhilarating, stirring, and captivating film is based on a true story of the personal experiences of film director Benjamin Avila, whose mother was affiliated with the Montoneros organization, a group of revolutionaries fighting against the Military Junta that ruled Argentina at the time.

This artistic story about militancy, undercover life, and love is seen through the eyes of young Juan as his family is tracked down relentlessly due to their political affiliations. Under the constant threat of capture and death, Juan and his family assume false identities. Juan quickly and easily integrates into his new life, making friends and developing a sweet affection for his schoolmate, Maria, who knows him as Ernesto—the name he must remember as his own because his family’s survival is at stake. Juan accepts his clandestine identity until he is suddenly told he needs to move again, leaving behind his newfound life. It is the story of a clandestine childhood, laced with struggle and excitement as well as sweetness, tenderness, and joy.
