Anza Day reflects Tubac’s Spanish history and provides educational engagement of youngsters in this significant event in Tubac’s history. In October, 1775 Spanish Colonel Juan Bautista de Anza and 240 people went from Tubac to the San Francisco Bay. Our event begins in the cool of the morning at 9 am with period costumed riders readying for travel. The Anza riders will assemble along with a host of imaginary settlers and livestock, and proceed to St. Ann’s Church (the site of Tubac’s Presidio’s original chapel) where they will receive a blessing for the journey. The riders will parade through town and then depart. From 10 am to 3 pm at the Presidio we will host our Anza Discovery Program with activities, and demonstrations, superb photo ops. This is a wonderful opportunity for children of all ages. A $1 per adult donation is suggested for children’s supplies. For more information call the Presidio, 520-398-2252.
